How Caregivers can Cope with Feeling Like You’ve Let Your Mom or Dad Down
There’s no doubt that it takes an extraordinary amount of courage to be a caregiver to one or both of your parents. It is not for the faint of heart. However, while you are thrown into the practical and necessary components of making sure your mom or dad has the best care, you are also thrown into the midst and the depths of the emotional toll it takes.
Here are a Few Words of Encouragement:
- Please know you are not doing anything “to” them when it comes to making difficult decisions (and believe me, there will be many). Please know you are doing it “FOR” them. What a difference one word can make.
- You are their voice and their choice, their head, and their heart.
- Their needs come through them to you because you are their vessel.
- You are chosen (in my humble opinion) by God to be the man or woman for the job; please know if God thinks you are good enough and can handle this, have faith that you can and you will
- You are the definition of an earth angel.
I hope these few words of encouragement help you to feel into how much you do for them and not to them, and you realize how strong, graceful, and capable you are.
